Six Degrees fic
Written for day 13 of consci_fan_mo. I was rewatching 'The Great Game' last night and this drabble popped into my head, and it sort of spiralled out from there. Sorry *g*. Not sure I'm strictly sticking to the rules of Six Degrees as 2 & 4 aren't crossovers, but they are all drabbles.

1. Sherlock(BBC)/Doctor Who (11), 2. Doctor Who, 3.Doctor Who/NCIS, 4. NCIS, 5. NCIS/Discworld, 6. Discworld/Sherlock(BBC)

1.Sherlock stared at the board and then glared at his opponent. The Doctor was certainly turning out to be more of a challenge than he’d first anticipated. He’d assumed this game would be over quickly, yet four hours later they were still locked in a battle of wits. He was a big enough man to admit that he’d taken one look at the man’s bow tie and filed him in the category of ‘interesting idiot’.

It impressed him that the Doctor could mask his true self so efficiently.
Sherlock smiled.

“B12,” he said. The Doctor pouted.

“You’ve sunk my battleship.”

*-*

2.“Doctor, you’re not getting the point of this game,” Amy said in exasperation. The Doctor looked truly shocked by this accusation.

“Course I am. You go round the board, collecting the pieces, in order to trap the mouse,” he replied with a note of triumph in his voice.

Amy and Rory shared a look that spoke an entire conversation. It went along the lines of ‘you tell him’, ‘no, you’, ‘ok’.

Rory shrugged as he lost the non-verbal argument and turned to the Doctor.

“You see, Doctor, if it’s not working, it’s cheating to fix it with your sonic screwdriver.”

*-*

3.Rory had been confident of his chances; he’d been the film buff on his pub quiz team for five years.

And yet, that elusive pink cheese was still missing from the pie.

He sighed with relief as he landed on a pink square and watched as DiNozzo drew a card.

“Oh this is easy, I don’t even have to check the back,” Tony said.

Rory groaned inwardly; he had a feeling he was about to be humiliated in front of his wife and the Doctor.

“Which film won Oscars for both Best Original Score and Original Song in 1970?”

“Bugger.”

*-*

4.“This game is completely ridiculous,” Ziva declared. “We investigate crimes for a living, for pity’s sake!”

“Baffled, Ziva?” Tony said innocently.

“I was sure that it was Professor Plum, in the library, with the candlestick.”

“Cards say otherwise,” Tim said as he held them up. “You got one right though.”

“One out of three, McSuck-up,” Tony snarked. “Glad it’s not real life, or poor Professor Plum would be looking at a life stretch.”

“Don’t be ridiculous, Tony. This game is nothing like reality.”

“Good thing too,” said Gibbs as he passed, causing them to jump up, sending the board flying.

*-*

5.Ducky was getting the firm suspicion that Gytha had made up this unbelievably complicated drinking game, and that it was rigged so that he would lose.

“So, the hedgehog has to end up here,” he said pointing. “But only if I hold the wizard’s staff?”

“Which has a knob on the end,” Gytha Ogg confirmed with an elaborate wink.

He’d agreed to play, and he was a man of his word so he reached for his bottle of Laphroaig.

“Oh you don’t wanna go drinking that foreign muck,” Gytha declared and whipped out a wooden hipflask. “Have some of this.”

*-*

6.“And I think you’ll find that’s checkmate in three moves,” Sherlock declared with a grin.

NO

“I think it is.”

I CANNOT BE BEATEN. I ALWAYS WIN, IN THE END.

“And yet, checkmate. Sorry old chap, I guess even you have your off days,” Sherlock said, trying to sound reassuring.

Death looked puzzled and scratched his skull with one bony finger. Suddenly the blue pinpricks in his eye sockets flared.

YOU CHEATED. IT IS THE ONLY EXPLANATION.

Sherlock leaned back in his chair for a moment, assessing Death. Then he leaned forward with a conspiratorial grin and said,

“Prove it.”

*is puzzled*
I love them but the Trivia Pursuit one buggs me - the internet says: Best Original score: "LOVE STORY" Best Song: "LOVERS AND OTHER STRANGERS"

So what?

Rory couldn't win?

Or did you mean another year?

Re: *is puzzled*
It's a teensy bit of a trick question: Oscars won in 1970 were for 1969 films. The correct answer is Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

Re: *is puzzled*
Thank you both - obviously I'm too stupid to google competently ;)

I'm alsi strangely happy about the answer being "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" instead of "Love Story" or some film I never even heard of.

Re: *is puzzled*
It is completely understandable, common sense even, to be happy about an answer NOT being Love Story

You had me at "You've sunk my battleship" and I still haven't stopped giggling. I think it helped that for every drabble I got a visual of the game - except for 5, and I got Ducky being bewildered for that.

♥LOVES♥
