HL50 Prompt- Lover
This story is set in my AU The L World (nothing to do with the L Word except for me trying to be witty with the title and I love that show). It might be best to read the first part of that (which can be found at my LJ here) before reading this but I have provided a brief summary for those who don’t like crossover fic.

WARNING: Before you read further, this story (and my AU) contains a slash relationship between Duncan and Richie so stop now if that sort of thing offends. There’s nothing graphic as I don’t write GUS but innuendo may abound.

In my AU Richie has been resurrected (I’m not in Denial, just paddling at the edge) and he and Duncan are lovers. It’s set in the present, after Endgame.

This is set during part two of my fic, when Duncan is visiting a friend in LA.

Love him or leave him?

Duncan had been gone for weeks now, leaving Richie to take care of the business. He was doing a pretty good job of managing the place; it wasn’t going to make either of them much money, but finally it wasn’t operating at a loss. The dojo had developed a steady clientele since their return and Richie had even begun teaching a few community self-defence classes, which were proving popular.

Tonight, he was alone, practicing with his sword. He moved through the positions that had become second nature to him as he shadow-fenced his imaginary opponent. A few years ago that opponent had Mac’s face, but he had let all that anger dissolve and flow out with his tears during their embrace in the monastery. Now he had nothing in his heart for Duncan but love.

And what a love it was. It had taken them both completely by surprise, the intensity of their passion, and Richie now wondered if perhaps it had been only fleeting, a moment that had now passed. He knew that for him it was much more than that, although he didn’t think he was gay. He had never felt that way about a man before and he didn’t feel that way about any other men now; only Duncan. His sexuality had been given the Uri Geller treatment by his love for Mac, but this was the exception not the rule. He still loved the ladies. He smiled to himself as he remembered a drunken night a few years back that he had shared with Amanda. Oh yeah, he still loved the ladies.

But then there was Mac. They had been lovers for six months, but during that time they had hardly been out of each other’s sight, or arms for that matter. Now Duncan was in California, dealing with this new Immortal, and they hadn’t seen each other in weeks. When they had spoken on the phone, Duncan had seemed distant, distracted. Richie was used to getting that from girls and he was worried that Mac was trying to find a way to break it off. Had absence made the heart grow fonder or in the cold light of day would Mac realise he’d made a mistake?

Richie finished with his sword and switched to some slower kata to cool down. He was being foolish to think like this, and it was wrong of him to second guess Mac. Still, they had never been exactly forthcoming in discussing their feelings around one another. Richie figured that it was Scottish stoicism that prevented Duncan from opening up. He would see how things were once Duncan returned, and if he was still acting distant then he would make it clear that he would have no hard feelings if Mac wanted to end things. Better to end things now and maintain their friendship than risk losing him altogether.

His training was interrupted by the telephone ringing, and he jogged over to the office and answered it. “DeSalvo’s.”
“Richie?”
“Hey Mac, how’s it going?”
“Good, listen I’m bringing Jesse home with me. He needs to leave California, and I’ll be able to train him better in Seacouver.” There was a pregnant pause, “Rich?”
“Yeah Mac?”
“I’m really looking forward to seeing you again.” Richie grinned from ear to ear.
“I’m looking forward to seeing you too. Goodnight.” He hung up and sauntered back to the mat like the cat that got the cream. No hard feelings? he mused, I’d say semi-hard maybe.

I'm not much for this particular ship, but I did enjoy going through Richi'es mindset regarding what was happening. :)

Not that I am into slash at all (hetero/homo/bi or whatever), but I think you nailed the thoughts really well. Nice work.
But, I don't want to be a pie,idontlikegravy on March 30th, 2007 10:00 pm (UTC)
Thanks for the compliments, I know that this ship isn't everyone's cup of tea, which is why it is in the background in the main thread of my AU. I promise I am going to stay IC as much as possible for the table, but you can't help where those pesky muses take you can you? :)
