HL50 - Wolf
Its another Richie and Methos scene...

Working Class Hero

Methos took the proffered beer and chugged back half of it in one go. He wasn’t entirely sure how he had come to be here, but the offer of free beer definitely had something to do with it. Richie sat down opposite him and stared at him expectantly. He needed to gather his thoughts and he was enjoying keeping Richie dangling, so he pretended to wool-gather for a few minutes.

Richie shifted his position slightly, the anticipation and impatience evident. Methos chuckled inwardly and pretended not to notice. After ten minutes Richie lost his patience and broke the silence. “So?” he demanded.

Methos pretended to be startled.
“Oh yes, right. Sorry, what was it you wanted to know again?”
“What was John Lennon really like?”
“Oh, yes. Lovely chap. Wanted to change the world, might just have, had he lived. Terrible shame that.”

Richie leaned forward in his chair. Oh this is almost too easy, Methos thought. Almost too easy, but it was amusing him. Richie made gestures with his hands, designed to make Methos continue in his story.

“Is that it?” The crestfallen look on the boy’s face was perfect. “I could have got that from the Biography Channel. I want to know the truth.”
“The truth?” Methos smiled. There was something wolfish in that smile, something that made Richie shiver. Then, just as quickly, it had passed and it was Adam smiling his warm amused smile at him. “Well did you know he was gay?”

“Really?” Richie exclaimed. This was definitely too easy. Methos wasn’t sure whether to continue or not. There was something too earnest about the look on Richie’s face, something that made taunting him no fun.

“No not really. He had a lot of gay friends, and there were rumours about him and Brian Epstein, but I never saw anything.” Richie looked almost disappointed. “Basically, the time I was hanging around with The Beatles and The Stones was mostly spent completely out of my tree on whatever drugs were around. I can’t really remember much of anything to be honest.”

“Oh.” Richie nursed his beer for a moment, before visibly brightening again. “Still in all your life there must have been someone famous you have a story about.” Methos grinned, and deep, deep inside of him the wolf licked its lips. Perhaps there was possibility for some amusement after all.

“Well, there was this time with Lord Byron…”

This was lovely! I can just picture Methos teasing Richie in this fashion.

(As an aside -- do you mind if I take off from the end of this to fill one of my Byron slots?)

Thank you. And of course, be my guest, I'd be delighted. :)

I love the two of these together--old Immortal, new Immortal. Richie's eternal optimism, Methos' world-weariness. Great pairing. More! More!

Nothing in the pipeline at the mo, but I do love writing for these two. In fact I probably should have claimed them as a pairing. Oh well. :)

Heh. Methos could have had so much fun messing with Richie's head.

Yeah, but it would have been like kicking a puppy. Which I don't think he does (anymore at least). :)
