Doctor Who 3x13 The Last of the Time Lords SPOILER CITY

So RTD hands himself a big old get-out-of-jail-free card at the eleventh hour. Honestly. I quite liked the whole 'humans are marvellous when we work together' thing, but it did feel a little sentimental.

What the hell was that David Tennant/Dobby/Gollum half-breed about?  I know it's a kids show and they don't have a big FX budget, but come on people! Okay, so it is a little tricky to visualise what a 900-odd-yr old person should look like, and I loved that the Master kept him in a cage but I did waste much of the ep thinking 'aw, a pocket sized Doctor'.

Oh, now hang on a sec, a pocket sized Ten who wasn't old and wrinkly.....*shakes filthy thoughts from head*

He killed the Master? No fair! I liked the justification of it, that it was the Master's way to finally beat the Doctor, to ultimately and for all time outwit him, but still. I was just warming to John Simm's nutty as a fruitcake sociopath and he's snatched away from us. Damn you RTD and all your kind. I'm not ashamed to admit that I shed a little tear over that scene. Well-played by both messrs Tennant and Simm.

Nice little twist at the end with the Face of Boe thing, but as someone rightly pointed out in a comment on

jinxed_wood's LJ, it does remove much of the dramatic tension from Torchwood. It is nice to know that Jack will one day get the release he desires (oo-er missus) but isn't all that in itself creating one of those head-hurty paradoxes? Cos if he's the face of Boe then he has to tell the Doctor that he isn't the last Time Lord which by consequence leads to the Doctor not stopping Yana opening the watch (cos that's the only reason I can think he wouldn't have done it cos he's too bloody smart not to work out who it would be) and the Master scheming his schemes and Jack therefore learning the Doctor isn't the last Timelord and so on and so forth. Er, well okay I suppose it isn't really a paradox, but it's one of those pre-destined causality things that so often crop up in sci-fi.

Now, as for the bit with the ring, I watched Confidential afterwards, and I'm reasonably certain that it is Lucy that picks up the ring. Obviously it will come back and bite the Doctor on the arse sooner or later. But I'm just going to say this - the ring had the same markings as the watches...

As for the very end, the 'teaser' for Christmas? *squee*
I love the idea of a ship crashing into the TARDIS! I just have one complaint, the Titanic? How cliche is that? Rusty, try to be a bit more imaginative! How about the Lusitania? Or the Mauritania? Or any of the White Star ships that went down?

I was a little disappointed after the brilliance of the last two, but overall I didn't feel too let down and in the end it is a kids show. It's just this week was the first time it actually felt like one.

Just one last question - now what the hell do I watch until Torchwood is back? ;-D

This week I am mostly feeling: satisfiedsatisfied

Doctor Who 3x13 The Last of the Time Lords SPOILER CITY
Felt the last episode was rushed. Would have preferred the Toclafane to be the genesis of the Daleks.

Just have to watch Hereoes when is starts on BBC2

But, I don't want to be a pie,: specsidontlikegravy on June 30th, 2007 10:12 pm (UTC)

Yeah, but the Daleks AGAIN? Been there, done that. Plus the whole Utopia thing had to go somewhere.

You're right though, it did feel rushed.

i had silent tears over the Masters demise :( and the thing with the Titanic, didnt the Doctor#9 say something along the lines of: "I was on a ship that they said was unsinkable once. was left clinging to an iceberg, wasnt half cold." i dont know what ep. it was in or even if my head came up with it, though i dont think it did. so how is there going to be 2 doctors on the Titanic?!?!

Oh and I have nothing to do untill Torchwood is on either! at the moment the very small and sad part of my life is just focussed of Doctor Who (which has left me till xmas), Heroes (only 1 more ep. of the 1st series on sci-fi then i'll just watch it all over again on bbc) and Harry Potter (goin 2 see the film at the weekend and am desperate 4 the book) has been crushed! gah, I might die when its all over!
